How did TBY start?

Transform Bexley Youth (TBY) began when two churches ran a Youth Alpha (YA) course together in 2003, and the youth group that resulted formed the team for a Welling wide Youth Alpha in 2004 with 4 churches and a weekend away.

With youth discipleship groups growing, the model was perpetuated wider across Bexley with courses in 2006 and 2007 with young people from Sidcup, North Heath, Bexleyheath and Welling, and the youth leaders from 6 churches didn’t want to stop meeting together, so they called themselves Transform Bexley Youth and met periodically to pray, plan and collaborate, including running further YAs in 2009, 2010, 2011 including one in a secondary school, and further since.

Since then, there have been several iterations of joint youth worship events (The Furnace, Transform, Ignition), weekends away, Youth Alpha courses, a 24hr lock-in, a secondary schools week with a Youth for Christ band, encouraging Christian Unions to form in schools, attending summer camps together and Running Late in a night club in Bexleyheath.

TBY is now the Youth Hub in TBB, and links youth groups, and youth leaders together where they can do some things better together than separately.

We can signpost young people from churches without youth groups to somewhere that will help them to grow in their faith and make friends with other Christian teenagers, including finding Christians in their school, and access training for themselves to lead others.
